A permit to operate a Habit Burger & Grill at the former Denny’s location in Ukiah will be considered by the city of Ukiah. According to the staff report prepared for today’s meeting of the Zoning Administrator, UK 105 Investments, LLC, formally applied to renovate and reuse the building at 105 Pomeroy Street,” which has been empty since 2023. The project was considered by the Design Review Board last month, who recommended the project move forward. The hearing is set for later this morning at 11. in Conference Room 3 of the Civic Center.

Clear Lake Environmental Research Center (CLERC) was chosen as the 2025 Lake County Climate Crisis Champion. Each year, Rep. MIke Thompson recognizes community members across California’s Fourth Congressional District to honor for their outstanding efforts to address our ongoing climate crisis. Congressman Thompson says he chose them because "the center has been at the forefront of Lake County community’s fire prevention and fight against climate change." The Record Bee is reporting that criteria for selecting champions is based on their efforts fighting the climate crisis and protecting the environment in the local communities. Thompson says CLERC has established a team of professionals with expertise in biology, fire science, and water resource management, who are part of the Center’s core mission.

The Catholic Diocese of Santa Rosa is accepting bids for St. Francis Church in Hopland Many residents and former church parish lay leaders say they’d like to see the 127 year old building and surrounding mission property converted into a community center. Vintner John Fetzer said that he, Golden Pig owner Julie Golden, and others who either live or do business in Hopland would like to open negotiations with the diocese to purchase the property and turn St. Francis into the center of the community. Mendofever is reporting that the church was shut down in 2020 at the start of the pandemic and was later listed among church-owned properties to be considered for sale during the diocese’s bankruptcy proceedings.

Assembly Bill 90, a first-in-the-nation bill authored by Assemblymember Corey Jackson, would require colleges and universities to set up safe parking on campus for students who are homeless. Jackson says it’s not a permanent solution but claims it’s a safe temporary one while the state deals with the housing crisis. Rent in California is 30-percent higher than the rest of the nation and student housing is limited and Jackson says three years ago Long Beach Community College set up such a program and he wants that implemented statewide.
