A new bill making its way through the legislature is looking to put an end to non-disclosure agreements in government. It would update California’s Political Reform Act of 1974 to stop lawmakers from signing NDAs or asking anyone else to sign them. There’s an exception for NDAs that protect private business information, but otherwise, the rule would be pretty clear. If someone breaks it, they could face a misdemeanor charge.

The Healdsburg City Council is shaking things up with its district election map, just weeks after giving a thumbs-up to an earlier version. The new map takes a different approach by splitting the southern part of the city in two and scraps the old idea of having one downtown district surrounded by four others. Now, Healdsburg would be divided into five districts, each with about 2,300 residents. The new map boosts the percentage of Latino residents in all but one district.

Sonoma County officials are slamming Avelo Airlines for taking on a federal contract to operate deportation flights. The airline is shutting down its operations base at Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport, less than a year after it opened, and shifting its focus to Arizona. That’s where Avelo will begin flying deportation routes under a contract with the Department of Homeland Security. Board of Supervisors Chair Lynda Hopkins says the decision is a blow to the local economy and affects travel options for the community. As part of the shift, Avelo is also cutting several routes to Montana, Idaho, and Utah.

A man is behind bars after a violent assault in Ukiah early Monday morning. Mendocino County Sheriff’s deputies say Karl Gage broke into a home around 3:30 a.m. and attacked the resident with a knife during an argument. The victim was treated for cuts to his face and arm. Gage, who was already on parole, was eventually found and arrested. He has been booked into Mendocino County Jail on multiple felony charges, including mayhem, burglary, and assault with a deadly weapon. He’s being held without bail.
