New rules for the Powerball lottery–played in California and 45 other states and Washington. Starting after tomorrow’s drawing, the tickets will cost 5 bucks, which officials say will make the odds slightly more in your favor–and increase the starting jackpot to 50 million dollars. It should also lead to more stratospheric jackpots. The lottery admits–winning it all is longer than a long shot onene in 290 million, whether you buy just one ticket or 20. But–as a kind of consolation, the SMALLEST win gets you 10 bucks–double your money back. The Powerball isn’t changing, so you can still take your choices for $2.00
