California turns 175 years old later this year, and Governor Newsom has announced plans to celebrate. A group of state leaders will join together to coordinate the celebrations, with a main event planned for the official Birthday on September 9th. The governor wants to highlight the people and places that have pushed the state forward since it was established as a state in 1850. The website celebrate.ca.gov has information on what’s coming up. The state commemorations come as America plans to make its 250th–or Semiquincentennial–in 2026.
