Lake County supervisors meet Tuesday to consider the status of the County Housing Commission–and the possibility of moving it’s operation to a larger, regional commission. Also on the agenda, is a public hearing about the Planning Commission;’s denial of a major use permit for a cannabis farm. The commission turned down the application by Nina Star Farms for that operation on Shady Grove Road in Middletown. The meeting starts at 9:00 at the county courthouse in Lakeport.
The Lake County Fire Protection District’s Board is meeting this week to consider candidates for a vacancy. The special meeting on Tuesday at 5:30 at district station 50 on Main Street will hear from 6 candidates for the position and could choose one of them after those interviews are complete. The board of supervisors will have to approve the selection.
Another court date is set for April in the case of a Lake County Code enforcement officer charged last year with misconduct. Antonio Chavez Anguian was scheduled to this month, but the judge in Lake County Superior ordered more pre-trial discussions. Chavez Anguian was arrested on Grand Theft, extortion, bribery, and other charges last year after allegations made against him by the Lake County Community Development Department. At the time he was arrested, officers reported finding 35 pounds of processed marijuana and $19,000 cash at his home after a search warrant.
125 members of the CHP’s most recent class of cadets have been sworn in as officers. Commissioner Sean Duryea says the group’s dedication and perseverance will serve them well as they start their law enforcement careers. The new officers will be assigned to one of CHP 102 area offices–among them, 5 will serve as officers in the CHP region that covers Lake County. They are all part of the largest class of cadets to finish the academy since 2022. The next class of 160 officers in training starts on April 7th.
