Plans for a new training facility for the Tribal EcoRestoration Alliance in Upper Lake are on the agenda for the Lake County Board of Supervisors when they meet on Tuesday. The Alliance has been around since 2019 and says its mission is to revitalize the economy and preserve the ecology of native lands through tribal stewardship. They plan to use a 3,9 million dollar federal block grant to acquire 140 acres on Highway 29 to use as a training area and headquarters for staff and stewardship crews. The money will also go to wildfire resilience training, which will be available at no cost to Lake County Residents. The board will also go over the county’s 2025 roads project and get an update on the 2026 Regional Transportation Plan. The meeting is at 9 AM at the county courthouse.

The Clearlake City Council has agreed to ask for Congressman Mike Thompson’s support for a planned system of fire protection cameras that use AI to spot wildfires and then alert authorities. The congressman’s office is asking communities in his district to give him a list of what projects he should give to the House for consideration in the federal budget. The Record-Bee reports the Clearlake Council has decided to recommend the smart cameras, which cost more than the city alone can afford. Every year members of Congress can put forward 15 projects in their district, but there’s no guarantee they’ll be submitted, or funded. especially in the current political climate in DC. Clearlake has been successful in getting federal money in the past, getting around six million dollars over the past two years to help with projects related to the Burns Valley Sports Complex.
