Lake County is planning to use a drone to spray mosquitoes around Clear Lake next week. The first drone is scheduled to go up on Monday to cover Clear Lake State Park and Lakeport, including parts of S-Bar-S Ranch, Scotts Valley, Lyons Creek, Bridge Arbor and Upper Lake. The spray application depends on the weather. The Lake County Vector Control District says the marshlands around the lake are perfect breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The district says the spray they’ll use is a biological larvicide that doesn’t harm people, animals, or aquatic life and breaks down safely in the environment. Mosquitoes are more than just annoying pests when you’re outside. They can carry serious viruses including West Nile and Equine Encephalitis. If you’d like more information, the website is lcvcd.com

The state has been holding the mock trial competition for 40 years and many of its participants have gone on to successful careers in the legal system and other professions.

Spring is officially a little less than two weeks away but you wouldn’t know it by the forecast. The National Weather Service has put up a freeze warning from midnight tonight to 9 AM tomorrow. The cold could harm or kill tender vegetation, so you’ll need to bring plants inside or cover them before you go to bed. Speaking of bedtime–you’ll get an hour less of it this weekend with the annual spring forward ritual change to Daylight Saving Time. Most people hate changing the clocks twice a year, but Congress can’t agree on making either Daylight Saving or Standard time year round.
