A wind advisory remains in effect for Southern Lake County through 2 AM tomorrow. The National Weather Service says winds will blow at 20 to 30 miles an hour with some gusts up to 45. That means unsecured objects will blow around and driving, especially in a high-profile vehicle will be difficult. Total rainfall from the latest atmospheric river..about 3 inches.
Along the coast, a high surf advisory is in effect from 6:00 PM to 2:00 PM Friday. The Weather Service says there will be dangerous surf with breaking waves between 20 and 22 feet. There could also be some minor beach erosion. The waves will be unpredictable, so the advice is to stay away from rocks and jetties–and for boaters to stay in port until the waves go down.
The recent rain has caused a rare–and spectacular– occurrence at the Lake Berryessa Reservoir. The reservoir has a unique spillway– basically a 70-foot open pipe in the middle of the lake, that allows water to drain out when it gets too high to prevent flooding. The rain has filled the lake, so the water is now gushing into the spillway, creating a mesmerizing, circular show as the water swirls down into the opening. People have been coming from all over to see it. The lake doesn’t get full very often. The last time was several years ago and even then, locals near the reservoir say it wasn’t nearly as dramatic. Reservoir officials think the phenomenon will last another couple of weeks until the water goes down.
A peaceful ending to an hours-long standoff with police in Ukiah. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s office says Brandon Langenderfer was arrested after he barricaded himself inside a home on Village Circle Wednesday afternoon, where police were trying to serve a warrant for a violent assault. The SWAT team was called and residents nearby were evacuated. Langenderfer refused to come out, but after several hours officers found Langenderfer hidden inside, with a loaded gun. He was arrested without incident and is being held on $100,000 bail for the original warrant charges, plus additional charges of felony gun possession and resisting law enforcement.
