The Lake County Board of Supervisors has decided not to send letters to a federal agency responsible for changing place names. The board had drafted a letter requesting an update on policy from the Board of Geographic Names. The letter would NOT have been related to the ongoing controversy about renaming Kelseyville. Lake County News reports the name change issue is likely off the table, but Supervisor Eddie Crandall says he isn’t sure what will happen next. A public, non binding referendum last fall overwhelmingly rejected the idea, Those asking for a change want the name to be Konocti because of the current name’s ties to a man responsible for atrocities against natives back in the 1840s

Events are planned Friday and Saturday night in memory of a man shot and killed last Friday in Lakeport’s Library Park. The first event is Friday evening from 6: 30 to 9 at the park where the Middletown Arts Center’s open mic night will be dedicated to Vicente Colacion. Arts Center says Colocion wrote and enjoyed poetry and would often read to the group over the phone. A vigil is also planned for Saturday at Library Park at 7:30 at the gazebo. The man accused of killing Colosciaon has made his first court appearance and has pleaded not guilty. He remains behind bars as the investigation into the case continues
