Look for some storms over the next few days that could bring quite a bit of rain to the area and maybe even some snow to higher elevations. The National Weather Service says up to four inches of rain could fall across Lake County because of some atmospheric river-type storms. Most of the rain will fall Friday into Saturday. It’s possible there could be some minor flooding because of all of the rain.

A new campaign is discouraging underage drinking in Lake County. The Lower Lake High School Friday Night Live Club is working with the Lake County Behavioral Health Services on the program that includes initiatives that encourage healthy alternatives to drinking among young people, and visits to retailers to teach them about the dangers of selling alcohol to minors. The Friday Night Live program involves 45 other chapters from across the state and it gets funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

After years of talking about it, the City of Willits is upgrading the lights in the public parking lot between Wood and School Streets and W. Mendocino Avenue. The city says they’ll put up 9 new solar-powered LED lights that will be brighter than the old ones and use a lot less energy. They’ll also they’ll keep working if the power goes out. Coastal Mountain Electric has already started working on the site, and they’ll be around for the next two weeks with crews and equipment. You might see some areas blocked off for construction and installation, and parking might be a little tight, but the city hopes to schedule the work to avoid inconvenience.
