The Lakeport Police Department says crime went down overall last year. Lake County News reports police outlined the number to the Lakeport City Council meeting at its most recent meeting. While there was a decrease in most crimes there were some increases too. Sergeant Ryan Cooley told the council there was a slight increase in reported assaults last year Among the most serious cases there were no reported homicides, four reported robberies, and 39 reported assaults. The number of stolen vehicles was down by more than half from 2023 to 17, while police responded to fewer domestic violence cases as well Overall the Lakeport PD took 159 crime reports in 2024. Police also report they wrote 42 traffic citations last year down from 82 the year before and arrested 25 people for DUI down from 76 in 2023
Three weeks after they were forced from their homes by fire, residents in Pacific Palisades are being allowed back into their neighborhoods–or what is left of them. All remaining evacuation orders have been lifted for the Eaton Fire, meaning people can finally go back,unescorted, between 6 am and 6 pm. Officials say the long healing can now begin for the hundreds who lost everything. Even for those whose homes still stand, it will be months before they can live in them again because of smoke and other damage and destroyed infrastructure. Among the remaining challenges–the risk of mudslides triggered by the weekend rain across southern California.
A warning and a recall of packaged broccoli florets sold in California and other states. The FDA says the call-back involves 12-ounce bags of broccoli sold at Walmart as Marketside Broccoli Florets by Braga Fresh that could contain listeria. The packages have a sell-by date of December 10th, and could still be in your freezer. The FDA website has more about the potentially tainted veggies.
