Down to business for the first time this year for the Clearlake City Council. The first meeting of the year on Thursday evening will start with a closed session to discuss a pending legal matter with the Highlands Water District. When the public meeting opens, the city will consider presentations and proclamations, before moving on to consider Mayor Russ Cramer’s 2025 appointments of council members to various boards and commissions. Council members will also handle other routine city business. The meeting is on Thursday at 6:00 PM at the Council Chambers.

A man accused of going after a Lakeport Police officer earlier this year has entered a no-contest plea. Nino Gonzales admitted there was enough evidence to convict him on two charges filed after Gonzalez attacked the officer inside a Lakeport convenience store last March. The Record-Bee reports other charges were dismissed. He will be sentenced later this month. Gonzalez has been undergoing mental health treatment since his arrest.
