It could be months before we know the cause of death of 15-year-old Roy Mora of Fort Bragg who was found dead December 23 in the waters under the Noyo River Bridge about two weeks after being reported missing. On Monday the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office released a Coroner’s report confirming that Mora’s body has been positively identified through dental records. The Coroner says the official cause and manner of death are still pending a full postmortem examination report and will not be released until that is finalized, which they say can take several months.
A Mendocino County Deputy has been arrested on allegations of domestic violence. Mendocino County Sheriff Matt Kendall tells the website Redheaded Blackbelt that he cannot comment on personnel issues but confirmed that Deputy Alexander Thong has been placed on administrative leave. But Ukiah Police officials confirm to the website that Ukiah officers arrested Thong for corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant and booked him into the jail and say there have been “other disturbances” involving him.
The search continues for a Middletown woman who has been missing for several months. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is once again offering details about Anne Jamieson in hopes that someone will come forward with information. Jamieson was reported missing November 29 although at that point she had apparently not been heard from by her family since late spring. The 58-year-old woman is known to hang out in Middletown, Cobb, and Calistoga. You can see her picture on the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. They are asking anyone who was in contact with her during mid to late 2024 to please contact the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
Ukiah may hire someone to direct volunteers in cleaning up city parks and waterways. At their meeting this week the Ukiah City Council is set to talk over a proposal to create a position that would oversee teams of volunteers combating litter, graffiti and other vandalism. The Daily Journal cites a report prepared by the Community Services Director saying city crews spend a lot of time and resources cleaning and clearing parks and public spaces, sometimes with the help of volunteers. He proposes recruiting more volunteers and hiring someone to coordinate them. If approved, it would pay the same as other similar city coordinator positions, between $23 and $29 an hour.
After three years of negotiations, the faculty of the Yuba Community College District has a new contract. The Yuba District Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to approve a new deal with the Faculty Association of the Yuba Community College District. Lake County News reports the agreement covers the academic years of 2022-23 through 2025-26. The Faculty Association spokesman says members will only be getting 80% of the state-provided cost of living adjustment but he says the impact of inflation has been somewhat mitigated and they got some protection for course load maximums and changes to the benefits structure to make it more consistent across the staff.
