The latest forecast puts much of Northern California under a marginal threat of excessive rainfall into Saturday. An offshore storm system could dump another three inches or more in spots and the surf along the Mendocino and Humboldt coasts will kick up to dangerous heights through late tonight, Forecasters say you should be careful along the shore–not a time for a stroll along the beach. PSE&G says they will be ready to respond to any power outages and CHP says drivers should be alert for rock and mudslides.

If you’re looking for a way to work off those extra holiday pounds, you might want to consider taking a hike. Anderson Marsh State Park will again offer free, community hikes beginning at noon on New Year’s Day. It’s part of the statewide America’s State Parks First Day Hikes program to encourage folks to ring in the New Year with a healthy walk near home. Anderson Marsh has two choices–a leisurely one of about 7 ½ miles from the Parking Lot at Clear Lake which should take about 3 hours, and a more challenging one over a loop along Cache Creek, Marsh, and River Trails which should take a couple hours. Just a few more days to enroll in the Covered California healthcare financial assistance program for all of 2025, Enrollment is already up by 3 percent from last year, with as much as a four percent increase by the time open enrollment ends on Tuesday.
