After voters overwhelmingly said “no” to a non-binding question about whether or not to change the name of Kelseyville, the Board of Supervisors will decide what to do now. The effort to change the name to “Konicti” started a little over a year ago by residents who objected to the Kelseyville name–and its connection to a man who brutalized Pomo Indians in the 1840’s Andrew Kelsey and an accomplice were killed in what is now Nice in 1850. The board approved the county-wide vote in August. Voters rejected it 71 percent to 21 percent. Supervisors have three options–agree with the voters, back a name change, or do nothing. If the board presses ahead with a name change the U.S. Board of Geographic Names will make the final decision

Discussion of the Kelseyville name is one item on the Board’s agenda on Tuesday, Among other things, the board will consider briefly appointing District 4 Supervisor Michael Green as board chair for the remainder of his term. The governor appointed Green as a temporary supervisor in October, to replace Tina Scott who resigned. Green has yet to serve as board chairman. The board will vote on a new chair and vice chair at the January meeting. Tuesday’s session will begin at ‌9‌ ‌a.m.iin the board chambers on the first floor of the Lake County Courthouse,

There has been a tentative settlement in a labor dispute between Yuba Community College and its faculty. The contentious dispute had dragged on for more than two years. Lake County News reports if approved, the faculty will get raises tied to the cost of living over the next four years, plus back increases for the last two school years. Yuba Community College oversees Woodland College which has a campus in Lake County.
