The Lakeport City Council is scheduled to vote on an ordinance that would require places that sell tobacco products to have a license. Council members have been talking about the idea since September. That’s when they heard about Lake County’s plans to adopt a similar license to address the rise of smoking and vaping in the county–specifically by school-aged kids taking up the habit. Lakeports ordinance would be similar to the new county regulations but Lake County News reports it would differ by giving the City Manager to designate enforcement–including by Lake County Health. The ordinance will be one of several items on the agenda at this week’s council meeting, which starts at 6 pm Tomorrow. If you would like to comment on this or any other agenda item, you’ll need to make arrangements by 3:30 tomorrow afternoon.
Also meeting tomorrow–the Lake County Board of Supervisors, who will discuss revenue bonds for the County Sheriff’s office Headquarters project. The board will hold a public hearing to consider approving lease revenue bonds of up to $25 million to remodel the former Lakeport National Guard Armory facility into the Lake County Sheriff’s Office headquarters. They’ll discuss the project’s 16-month timeline and sign a construction agreement at their next meeting in two weeks. Also tomorrow, the supervisors will discuss the county’s Opioid Settlement program and hear a presentation about the national flood insurance program The council meeting starts at 9 AM at the Council Chambers in Lakeport.
