The California Department of Water Resources says the state’s reservoirs are close to where they should be this time of year. While some are down to about 80 percent full, that’s well above where they were two years ago. The DWR says the state’s two biggest, Lake Shasta and Lake Oroville are in good shape. The US Drought Monitor map looks much different than two years ago. Then, much of California was in either extreme or exceptional drought. Today, none of the states is in either category. Water remains a top concern though. The state says next summer’s storage will depend on how much rain or snow we get this winter. Officials say they’ll take advantage of the good conditions as a hedge against the long-term effects of a hotter and drier climate by improving the state water infrastructure.

Late news today from LA, where the DA has recommended that Lyle and Erik Menendez be resentenced. George Gascon says the brothers, who killed their parents in their home in 1989, should be sentenced for murder, and 50 years to life with a chance at parole, instead of the life without parole sentence they are serving now. The final decision rests with the judge. Because of their ages at the time of the killings, the parole proceedings could start after that ruling.. Gascon says he is convinced that the brothers have paid their debt to society and been rehabilitated after the last three decades in prison. And while not excusing the crime, Gascon says he believes the brothers claims that they killed Jose and Kitty Menendez after years of emotional and sexual abuse while growing up You have probably seen the Netflix series and documentary that brought new interest to the case. Gascon says the public response to those shows led to his early decision to ask for a lesser sentence.
