Dry Windy COnditions are in the forecast as Cal Fire remains on alert into the weekend. The Red Flag warning will be up until Saturday evening. The conditions have led to a PG@E planned power outage in some areas of Lake County. About 1,100 customers west of Clearlake were among the first to have the power off. The utility plans to turn the power back on at 7 PM. Other outages were reported in Mendocino County between Willits and Covelo. Restoration for those couple hundred customers is expected at 9 PM. More areas could be added as conditions warrant. The information is on the PG@E outage site, The site also has resources for needs like charging, WiFi, and ice.

Monday is the last day to register to vote in the November election. You can do that on the Secretary of State’s website. Even if you miss the deadline, you still can sign up on election day for a provisional ballot. The county voter registration offices have more information about that option, You can still ask for a mail-in ballot but that has to be done by the 29th–a week from Monday–and you’ll have to have it back by November 12th to be counted.

Cal Fire is starting what it calls an educational burn in the Jackson Demonstration Forest next week. The burn is part of a multi-year forest-wide Greenhouse Gas fire fuel mitigation project. CalFire says the aim is to bring the state closer to meeting fuel reduction goals. The burning will start on Tuesday and last for 3 weeks to a month. Cal Fire says it will be strictly controlled although you may notice smoke or aircraft in the area between Willits and Fort Bragg along Highway 20

Dogs and cats enjoy treats–and they’ll get some tomorrow at the Ukiah Animal Shelter. The shelter on Plank Road is having a TRICKS and TREATS party with a chance to meet some new four-legged friends and watch them put on a Halloween Fashion show.
