An air quality advisory is in effect in the Laytonville area until Friday. That’s because of smoke from two prescribed burns in the area. One fir is on the Shamrock Rach just east of Highway 101, and the other is planned later in the week in Lower Tenmile Creek north of Laytonville. The county Air Quality Management District says the people in the area should minimize outdoor activity, stay inside when possible, and not use fans or air conditioners that bring the smoke inside. CAlFIre says controlled burns are necessary from time to time to remove potential fuel for unplanned fires and nourish the soil in the burned areas. The planned fires are weather-dependent.

How do you see Lake County in the year 2050? County leaders are hoping for public input on the Lake County 2050 Project, which will guide them into the future. The county is split into several area planning committees and they’ll each have virtual meetings over the next few weeks. They are also planning a couple of in-person countywide sessions. The first one is on the 17th–next Thursday and the second one is on the 21st–the following Saturday. Both are between 5:00 and 6:30 PM in the Board of Supervisors chambers in the Lake County Courthouse. There’s more information on all of this at the website LakeCOunty2050.org.
