The heat is slowly going away after Wednesday’s record of 107 in Ukiah. The old record was 105 set in 1980. Interior temperatures will gradually decrease this weekend into early next week, with mid to upper 90s Saturday decreasing to near seasonal normals (80s) early next week. That should ease fire concerns after several smaller fires Wednesday kept Mendocino county crews busy into the evening.
The Highlands Mutual Water Company board will remain the same after a special election. A dispute about the make-up of the board led to a court-ordered special election and the board had faced a challenge from several candidates who expressed concern over the utility’s operations. Highlands Mutual’s existing board of directors got 1083 votes to 203 votes for the challengers. Returning board members say they got the message–and will work to turn the page and put the dispute behind them. Clearlake Mayor David Claffey says the court-ordered election put a new light on the water company’s operations and will ensure more accountability and transparency.
