Your 2024 election ballots will soon be in the mail in Lake County. The board of elections says after that first round goes on October 7th, there will be supplemental mailings to make sure newly registered and re-registered voters get theirs. Once you get the ballot, you can mail it back by election day, drop it at the official ballot location, or bring it to any polling station and drop it off on November 5th. If you want to track your ballot, you can do that by going to the website wheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov. Your vote will be official once the board of elections gets them back but the first canvass won’t be until October 28th. Of course, we won’t know the RESULTS until after the polls close.

The Mendocino Council of Governments is looking 20 years into the future and wants to hear from residents about what that could be like. The council is updating the Mendocino County Regional Transportation Plan and Active Transportation Plan covering county needs into the 20-40’s. It’s looking at all forms of transportation including non-motorized and public transit. The plan is due in Early 2026 and the council wants to involve residents early in the process with community events and online tools. You can find out more at the website mendocinocog.org.

Many older drivers in California no longer have to take a course or test to keep their license. The DMV has announced a policy change that removes that mandate for most drivers over 70. Until now, they have had to either pass a test or do a pass-only online course to keep driving. Now, seniors with a clean record need only apply without any kind of exam. Those with a point or more on their licenses will still and need a test if they visit the DMV in person. but they’ll be able to renew by going through the online-only course
