Repopulation of the areas burned by the Boyles Fire in Clearlake continues. It is slow going because the city wants to ensure that returning property owners are safe from the hazardous debris left behind. Officials are urging people not to attempt cleanup of toxic waste but to leave it to the Department of Toxic Substances and Lake County Environmental Health, which is sending crews through the fire zone. To find out more about their schedule, you can check the city’s Boyles Fire Resource Website.
Ukiah Police have arrested a man they say was riding in a stolen pickup. Police got a hit from the city’s Flock license plate reader system alerting them to a stolen truck, and when they spotted the vehicle on South State Street they performed what they called a high-risk felony stop. After questioning the passenger in the truck, they arrested him. Lorenzo Cruz is now facing several charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of drugs, and illegal possession of a firearm. Police say the woman behind the wheel had no idea the truck was stolen and won’t be charged.
