A former Lake County sheriff’s correctional officer is accused of having sex with an inmate. The Sheriif’s office says Anthony Miller of Marysville in Yuba County turned himself in this week after he was indicted late last month. The Lake County DA’s office has charged him with felony sexual intercourse. Prosecutors say Miller and the female prisoner were involved in May and June 2022 and that the sex was consensual. Authorities say they found out when the inmate reported it earlier this year. Miller worked in Lake County until July 2022 and officials say he has been working elsewhere in the state since then. He was fired from that job. when that employer found out about the charges.

Hot and Dry conditions are raising concerns about fresh fires. Crews were out at a late-night fire on Highway 101 north of Ukiah. The Mill fire burned a little less than 4 acres before it was contained. Another small fire was contained about the same time at the far northwest corner of the county> Cal Fire is working dozens of fires statewide, including the Park Fire in Butte County, which is 99 percent contained after burning for 42 days now.

California isn’t the only place dealing with fires. The National Interagency Fire Center says 63 current wildfires across the state and in the Great Basin, Northwest, and Northern Rockies, have burned almost 2 million acres, requiring more than 18,000 firefighters and support personnel in service.
A heat advisory remains in effect through Friday for Lke County and interior Mendocino. Yestertday’s high in Ukiah hit 105 The weekend should be cooler.
