Unofficially, summer is over, but we will have some summer-like heat this week. The National Weather Service is out with a heat advisory for Lake County from 8 AM tomorrow to 11 pm Thursday. The hottest places could see 100 to 105 degrees, so officials are urging caution outside.

The weather is making the last bit of the containment fight at the Park Fire more challenging. Cal Fire puts the fire at 98 percent contained now but warns that conditions around the fire zone could make flare-ups possible. The focus now is repairing lands damaged in the huge fire that’s been burning since July 24th over 430,000 acres. Runoff from the scorched land could cause problems for water treatment systems downstream.

A small fire overnight burned about half an acre in Mendocino County The Blue Fire covered about half an acre at Highway 101 and Geysers Road near the Sonoma County Line before crews put it out around 2:30 this morning.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s office is investigating after passers-by found a body on a hiking trail in Ukiah. The body was discovered along the trail near the Lake Mendocino Spillway accessed from Rafello Drive on Sunday afternoon. Deputies say her family had been looking for Rocio Lupian-Lopez after she failed to return from a walk. Investigators say she had a medical condition that likely contributed to her death. While foul play is not suspected, deputies say an autopsy will be done to show what happened to her.

A man from Covelo is facing charges after the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office says he threatened his girlfriend in a domestic dispute. James Matthis is being held at the county jail on $30,000 bail after he was arrested Friday evening after a brief standoff with deputies.
