A wildfire in Sierra County has burned over a thousand acres and it is still expanding.according to the U.S. Forest Service The Bear Fire started Monday afternoon on the east side of the Tahoe National Forest
 

Union Members representing teachers in the Sonoma Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) voted unanimously last week to authorize a strike, if necessary. Mediation continues between the union and the district’s Board of Trustees over a new contract.
“The Valley of the Moon Teachers Association (VMTA) is looking for class sizes that are reasonable for our students, increased compensation for working longer hours and an increased workload, and a due process in discipline of its members,” said Dennis Housman, co-president of VMTA, along with Laura Hoban.
Both sides are in negotiations at the same time as the board is attempting to makes cuts in the district’s budgets.

A domestic violence victim has died. Officers arrested a man at 11:30 am on Friday in the 1400 block of Response Road on domestic violence charges and an attempted murder charge. Now the victim has passed and new charges could emerge.

A dump truck driver that crashed into stopped traffic on Highway 12 in West Santa Rosa last week was going at least 50mph at the time of the collision. One motorist died.The speed limit just before the intersection with Fulton Rd is a 55 mph speed zone and the truck was traveling west in the right lane when it failed to break for traffic. The truck slammed into the back of a Toyota tundra sending it spinning into other vehicles.

Yesterday, Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency for the city of Rancho Palos Verdes due to the risk of landslides. Authorities had to shut power off to over 200 homes.
Newsom said “land movement under the city that sits atop the bluffs of the Palos Verdes Peninsula has accelerated significantly following severe storms in 2023 and 2024 and “is now sliding at an average of 9 to 12 inches per week.
