Crews are inching slower to the containment of the PArk Ire. Cal FIre’s latest report says the fire is 82 percent surrounded, at just over 429,000 acres. It’s destroyed 729 structures and damaged another 54. About 2,200 personnel are on the scene of the fire which has burned near Chico for more than a month. Damp weather over the week helped progress toward containment.
We’re in for a late summer heat blast in parts of the area. The National Weather Service says Ukiah and eastern Lake County could be in the 98 – 101 range by Wednesday. Critical fire weather conditions are NOT expected.
The snow that fell this weekend up in the mountains is a reminder that winter is not that far off. Ski resorts there are getting ready, announcing their opening dates Heavenly, Northstar, and Kirkwood — announced Monday their tentative opening dates if there’s enough snow. Heavenly and Northstar are slated for Friday, Nov. 22, while Kirkwood hopes to open Friday, Dec. 6. Palisades Tahoe is expected to open on Nov. 27, the day before Thanksgiving, three months from today
