Cal Fire crews continue to chip away at the massive Park Fire in Butte County. The fire is now 54 percent contained at 429 thousand acres. More than 600 structures have been destroyed. So far, there are no reports of injuries in the four-county fire zone. It’s been burning for nearly a month.

State Senator Mike MGuire–whose district includes Lake and Mendocino Counties is taking on a new job this week. While Governor Newsom is off to Chicago for the Democratic National Convention McGuire is California’s ACTING Governor. McGuire is using his temporary position to welcome California School kids back in most districts this week and to remind residents that the state fire season is far from over. As the President pro tem in the Senate, McGuire also briefly held the mostly ceremonial post earlier this year. Look for Governo Newsom to speak later today at the convention.

It’s been a busy summer for work crews in Ukiah. The city is updating progress on several major infrastructure jobs, including phase two of the Downtown Streetscape projects. That work is almost done, transforming it into what the city calls a vibrant, walkable neighborhood. Crews have also wrapped up the distribution system of the Recycled Water Project. The city calls that work momentous. Once it’s online the project will provide recycled water to several parks, schools, and the Ukiah Valley Golf Course. The work cost 54 million dollars.

You’ll have a little more time to file rebuttal arguments against county, school, or district measures posted that will go on the November 5th Ballot in Lake County. The deadline to argue in favor of the measures has passed, but if any favoring arguments were accepted, you’ll now have until next Tuesday to submit your opposing view. The rebuttals have to be less than 250 words and have no more than 5 signatures. There are some other rules about formatting and the like. You can find more from the registrar of Voters.
