The Fort Bragg City Council meeting scheduled for Monday has been cancelled. It was scheduled for the 26th at 6pm. The next regular meeting of the Fort Bragg City Council will be held on Monday, September 9th at 6pm at Town Hall on North Main Street.
A rare, cold summer storm is expected to move into Northern California later this week. By the end of the week, the region will face a chance of rain and thunderstorms, along with a chance of snow in the Sierra. The northern and central Sacramento Valley are most likely to see rain, thunderstorms with lightning, and small hail. Winds of 20-to-25-miles-per-hour are also likely. In the Sierra, the coldest weather could come late Friday into early Saturday. Lows are expected to dip into the 20s and 30s.
A man is facing charges after a high-speed chase that ended in a crash south of Healdsburg. Fifty-five-year-old William Fletcher is due in court this morning. He is accused of trying to steal an ATM from the Shiloh Center shopping plaza in Windsor last Friday morning. Fletcher and a second suspect were not able to take the ATM, then refused to pull over when a Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputy got behind them. The suspects’ vehicle reached a speed of 120 miles-per-hour before crashing into the center median guardrail on Highway 101. Fletcher and the other man ran away. He was tracked down and arrested but the other man is still on the loose.
CalFire crews continue to battle the Park Fire, saying it’s now 54% contained. The fire’s been burning for almost a month now and has destroyed over 429 thousand acres of land in four counties. The fire has threatened over a thousand structures and destroyed 637. Thankfully no one has been injured by the fire that started in a wilderness park outside of Chico. Ronnie Stout has been arrested and charged with reckless arson after he reportedly pushed a burning car down an embankment to spark the wildfire.
An illegal cannabis operation has been shut down in Mendocino County. On Friday, California Department of Fish and Wildlife was in Potter Valley for a cannabis enforcement operation, according to a press release. They were able to shut down two properties in Mendocino County that were suspected of unlawful cannabis cultivation and environmental crimes. Officials served warrants at the two properties and were able to eradicate over 2,700 illicit cannabis plants and seize about 500 pounds of processed cannabis. Further investigation also turned up two firearms and led to 5 people being arrested.
Fort Bragg police have arrested a man on drug and other charges. According to a press release from the Fort Bragg Police, Kenneth Partridge of Fort Bragg, was arrested on Friday just before 10:30pm after a probation search of his vehicle turned up a quarter pound of Meth, $600 in cash, and a concealed dagger. Partridge was taken to the Mendocino County Jail and faces several charges including possession of methamphetamine for sale and violation of probation. Two other adults who were at the scene were questioned and released.
Governor Newsom is taking the stage on this second day of the Democratic National Convention. He flew to Chicago yesterday and will be delivering the final delegate votes needed to make Vice President Harris the party’s presidential nominee. She’ll formally accept on Thursday after giving a surprise speech last night. Out of the four-thousand-plus delegates there, California sent the most of any state at nearly 500.
California colleges are welcoming students back with new protest rules. California State University issued its policy last Thursday, banning tent encampments and overnight demonstrations. UC campuses are doing the same. President Michael Drake sent a letter yesterday telling chancellors to enforce the changes this fall and stop anything that restricts movement such as protests blocking walkways or roads.
