A judge has ruled that Highlands Mutual Water Company must hold a new election for its board and release more information about its operation. Clearlake had sued the water company saying it didn’t provide enough information before a board election in April. Judge J. David Markham’s ruling means the city is legally a shareholder and can put forth candidates for the water utility board. Now, Highland Mutual will have to notify all shareholders about a new election and hold that vote again within 45 days.
Groundbreaking is planned on a new psychiatric health facility in Mendocino County. Mendocino County’s Behavioral Health and Recovery Services new facility on South State Street in Ukiah will have 16 beds available for 24/7 inpatient care. It also includes treatment rooms, a large kitchen and dining area, and other spaces. Money for the project comes from Measure “B” passed in 2017 to improve mental health care in Mendocino County> The measure tacked on a small m tax increase dedicated to mental health programs. County leaders say the new facility will help keep patients in crisis closer to home and reduce the burden on emergency rooms and hospitals, which currently take in those patients until a treatment bed opens up. Groundbreaking is next Tuesday at 9 am–work should be done by fall, 2025
