Lake County Voters will have their say if “Kelseyvile” should be “renamed “Knocti” after The Board of Supervisors has decided to put the question on the November 5th Ballot. The vote was 3 to 2, with Supervisors Bruno Sabatier and Michael Green saying the decision should be in the hands of a federal agency that decides on place names across the country. That agency is now studying the idea. Supporters say the name “Kelseyville” is too tied to the brutal treatment of area natives by Andrew Kelsey in the 1840s. Board members who voted yes say it’s important for the entire county to have a voice, even if their vote is nonbinding. All Board members agree it is time to act on what’s been a divisive issue in the county for years.

CHP is planning a sobriety and license checkpoint on Friday in Lake County. They won’t say where but it will be somewhere in the unincorporated part of the county. CHP says the goal is to ensure all drivers are safe, especially focusing on areas with a high number of intoxicated or unlicensed drivers. They say the checkpoints are a proven way to prevent impaired or unlicensed drivers off the road. Expect zero tolerance and anyone unfit to drive caught will need to find another ride because officers will impound their vehicles. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

A man from Fort Bragg has been convicted of years of sexual abuse of several children. A jury found that Thomas Ya Pool abused the children–who were between 3 and 6 years old..from 2004 to 2020. Prosecutors say it was a tough three years since the case was brought but that Pool will never prey on children again. He’ll be sentenced next month and will spend anywhere from 25 to 40 years to life behind bars and even if he does get parole, he’ll be on the sex offenders list.
