Crews are making headway against two fires in Mendocino County. The Grange Fire near Boonville is 95 percent contained over 90 acres. The area is repopulated and weather conditions have CalFire optimistic that full containment will come soon. Also in Mendocino County, the Riley near Camp Noyo is 30 percent contained. In Lake County, it’s full containment for the Acorn Fire between Upper Lake and Nice.

Cal Fire reports The 2,756-acre RidgeFire, off Walker Ridge Rd north of HWY 20 in both Lake and Colusa counties, is now 100% contained. The fire started on Saturday, July 20

That huge Park Fire to the east near Chico continues to blaze over 360,000 acres. Cal FIre says containment is at 12 percent. Prosecutors say a twice-convicted felon set the fire when he rolled a burning vehicle into a tinder-dry canyon last week.

No doubt July has been hot in Lake County–record-breaking hot, according to the National Weather Service. LakeCo News.com reports of the 10 highest temperatures ever recorded at a monitoring station at Mt. Konocti, FOUR were in the first two weeks of July. That includes the 112-degree reading on July 6th which was the highest ever there.

The Lake County Board of Supervisors will decide this week if voters get to decide on a new name for Kelseyvile. The special session tomorrow at 9 AM will consider just one question–should changing the name to Konocti go before voters in a referendum this fall? Supporters say the Kelseyville name needs to go because it is tied to Andrew Kelsey and the abuse of the tribal members who lived there in the 1840s. The Board will decide on the question itself, and if so, would it go out to the whole county or just people in the Kelseyvill area? You can watch the meeting live on Zoom or the county’s social media channels.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s office continues to investigate the case of a man missing somewhere in the National Forest east of Covelo. mendofever.com reports that relatives from Dallas Texas are worried after a disturbing message last week from 44-year-old Manual Alavardo. The relatives were able to reach him and get a GPS fix on his location but Alvarado’s phone died. Search Crews have been out in the rugged terrain several times over the last week, but so far, there’s no sign of the missing man.
