Cloverdale Police believe they have solved a cold case murder from 1982. 13 year old Sara Geer was murdered in 1982, but the question of who killed her remained unanswered. Now, police say DNA technology that didn’t exist then has led them to 62 year old James Unick of Willows. According to a release from the Cloverdale PD the investigation took a turn in July 2021, when former police Chief Jason Ferguson reopened the investigation by reviewing evidence and doing interviews. Some of the evidence includes DNA samples, which were tested and matched to Unick, who is now in Sonoma County Jail on murder, rape, and kidnapping charges. He would have been 18 at the time Sarah Geer was killed–a crime that still haunts the community to this day.

A lost wallet has led police to arrest two women in Ukiah on drug charges. The Ukiah PD says the man reported his lost wallet in the area of the 1100 block of Airport Boulevard and that someone had used his debit cards at a gas station nearby. Surveillance video led to the woman police say used the card–and another woman in her car who had an outstanding Mendocino County warrant. Further investigation showed the woman had rented a Ukiah area motel room, where a search found a large quantity of drugs, packed and ready for sale. Both were booked into the Mendocino County jail.
