The fire at C & S Waste Solutions continues to burn in Ukiah. According to the latest updates, the fire started just after 4am and has done extensive damage. There are reports of a collapsed wall. The blaze has been dubbed Taylor IC, and Mendo Fever reports it was initially contained, but then spread to a nearby field. Fort Bragg and Healdsburg fire crews were called in to assist just after 5am. The blaze was so large it could be seen for miles and is visible on fire cameras.  It’s the second fire there in less than a month, according to officials. Crews responded to a fire there on June 11th when a compost conveyor belt ignited. Officials are asking residents to avoid the area while crews are still on scene.

If you’re planning a trip to the zoo, you may want to reschedule. Officials with the Sacramento Zoo say they plan to change the hours of operation due to the heat wave.  Zoo officials say they’ll allow entry until one o’clock and close at 2.  They say the reduced times are for the safety of visitors.  Zoo residents will be able to stay inside during the heat of the day.  Hidden Falls Regional Park is also closed today through the weekend due to the heat.

A dangerous new heat wave is hitting California this holiday week.  National Weather Service meteorologist Courtney Carpenter says the Excessive Heat Warning begins today and lasts through Saturday with many places baking in temperatures 20-degrees above average.  The region is facing heightened wildfire risk due strong northerly winds and low humidity.  A Red Flag Warning is in effect through Wednesday night.  Forecasters also warn heat stroke is a real possibility especially as millions plan to be outside celebrating the Fourth of July.

California has a new law requiring bars and clubs to offer drug-testing to protect customers from spiked drinks. It makes free or reasonably priced testing kits mandatory. The law also will require venues to have signage with this message: “Don’t get roofied! Drink spiking drug test kits available here.” The tests will be in the form of test strips, stickers, straws or other devices.

California high school students will soon have to take a financial literacy course to graduate.  The legislation will require students to take a semester-long personal finance education course by the 2027 school year.  Sacramento Assemblymember Kevin McCarty, the author behind the bill explains the new graduation requirement has been a long time coming.  The governor’s office says Governor Newsom is expected to sign the bill.

A Semi truck full of hay bales crashed on State Route 20, spilling its load. The crash happened just before 6pm yesterday just past the exit to Raven’s Landing Campground in Clear Lake. Officials said the big rig overturned while taking a curve. Hay bales spilled and covered one traffic lane. The crash caused additional cars to wreck in the area. Two vehicles were involved in a secondary accident that injured two people. Mendo Fever reported California Highway Patrol had to shut down the road to allow medivac into the area to take one victim to a nearby hospital with major injuries.
