One person is in custody after a carjacking and chase in Ukiah earlier today. Mendofever.com reports it started when the suspect stole a Toyota Prius at knifepoint near the 200 Block of South Orchard Street. Witnesses say they saw the car driving dangerously on Highway 101 South until law enforcement made the stop around Largo Road, where they drew weapons to arrest the person who was driving. Police say they’ll release more information once the case is sorted out.
The Big Valley Band of Pomo Indians have a new agreement with the State about the use of Clear Lake State Park in Kelseyville. The memorandum of understanding formalizes the relations between the tribe and the State Parks system. Under the agreement, the Big Valley tribe will contribute information about the park and participate in planning. It also streamlines communication and addresses park care and stewardship. The popular 590-acre park is part of the Big Valley Ancestral Homeland. This is the 12th formal arrangement between state parks and tribal leaders and has been in the works since 2021.
The Mendocino Board of Supervisors will vote tomorrow on naming the new highway 20 elevated span over the Russian River near the 101 interchange for Charlie Barra. Barra — the local longtime grape grower and founder of Barra of Mendocino Winery–is remembered for impacting California wine growing with irrigation innovation, legislation, and organics. There’s a vacancy on the Russian River Flood Control and Water Conservation Improvement District board. Board member Alfred White has retired after 13 years. His replacement will serve until the November election. If you’re interested you have until June 28th to submit your application. Lake County’s Habitat for Humanity is applying for a federal grant from the USDA. The money would go to the group’s ongoing mission to help low-income homeowners fix and rehab their homes in Lake County.
