The fire risk remains high after two fires kept crews busy in Lake County. One fire Wednesday burned 1.2 acres on Hammond Avenue in Nice. There was an evacuation order issued in that area but it was liftedCrews also spent time Wednesday at a fire scene in Lakeport where about 38 acres in the Scotts Valley Area. Other fires are still active including the Sites fire in Colusa County. The latest information shows 15 percent containment in the 19,000-acre fire zone. Progress in the Point fire, near Healdsburg which is 70 percent contained over 1,200 acres.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a missing teenager. 13-year-old Justice Jayde Smith, of Clearlake Oaks, walked away from her residence around 9:00 pm on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. Deputies canvassed the area and contacted known friends; however, Justice has not been located. Justice was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and black pants. She is known to wear a gold-colored necklace and multicolored bead bracelets on her wrist Justice is a 13-year-old white female with black hair, approximately 5’03" in height, and approximately 110 pounds.
A speedy verdict in Mendocino County Court for a man accused of child molestation It took just 30 minutes to find John Hill, said to be generally from the Ukiah Area, guilty of three misdemeanor counts involving three teen victims–two 13-year-olds and a 15-year-old. The Mendocino County DA’s office says Hill was also found to have violated his parole from an earlier crime. Sentencing for the misdemeanors and parole violation is set for today. Wherever the sentence, Hill will have to register as a sex offender for 10 years and report wherever he lives. Any future charges against Hill could be treated as felonies with convictions leading to state prison.
