The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a county jail inmate. The office says Dakota Anderson of Nice was in custody when he died in the ER at Sutter Lakeside on Monday. He had been in the Jail since June 11th waiting for a hearing on drug-related charges that was scheduled for next week. The department says it is following standard protocol in investigating Anderson’s death.
The large Sites fire in Colusa County is nowhere near contained. CalFire says it has spread to cover more than 15,000 acres. It is moving south but does not appear to threaten Lake County. Several structures are threatened and evacuations are ongoing.
Better news about the Point Fire in Sonoma County near Geyserville. Crews have the fire surrounded and it is about half contained as mop-up operations continue. Weather conditions are improving with higher humidity and lower wind. Cal Fire says the past three days fires have burned more acreage in its Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit than in the past three years combined. The risk of even more fires is significant, so officials say you should keep fire safety in mind
A bell that long ago sounded every night at 10 PM in Lakeport could soon have a new home in the city’s Xabatin Park. In the early 1900’s, they called it the curfew bell or the hooligan bell and when it rang kids knew it was time to get back home–or else. Public Works Director Ron Ladd says it deserves a special place to remind people of Lakeport’s rich heritage. The Lakeport Rotary Club will pay for the project to put the bell on a concrete pad and install two benches.
