It’s one of the greatest names for an event – the 6th Annual Beer, Wine and Swine Baconfest. It was held yesterday in Kelseyville and of course, the best part was that it’s a great day for Dads and families to just get out and enjoy the weather and have an old-fashioned good time with friends. From muscle cars to Northern California’s tastiest pork recipes to great music, the Beer, Wine and Swine Baconfest has become a favorite, not only for those in Kelseyville but now draws in people from all over the region. On a perfect day for people watching, the common feeling was that those in attendance can’t wait to do it again.

Mostly because of graduations and the end of school for the summer, the Middletown Unified School District Board meeting last week was rather sparsely attended. The focus during the meeting was primarily on budget cuts for 2024-2027. From restructuring a teaching principal’s salary, reducing the number of custodians, eliminating teacher aides, cutting technology positions and more, the Board addressed many issues that needed attention. The Superintendent says a poll of parents did show strong support for elementary school arts and music. They discussed how school attendance impacts revenue for the district. Shortfalls in the coming years could be massive and that had to be addressed as well. The Board meets in these public sessions on the second Wednesday of each month at 6pm.

Last Friday, the Kelseyville graduating class of 2024 celebrated the next phase of their life as over 100 seniors collected their diplomas by officially graduating and being free from the high school student life. The evening opened with the KHS Senior Band’s performance of the National Anthem. David Wilkes was the Valedictorian and told his classmates the “people will underestimate you and discourage you. Don’t let them be right and don’t let them win. Only you have the power to dictate what you are capable of”. The evening ended with a fireworks display.
