A man from Lucerne is accused of selling the fentanyl that killed a 17-year-old girl last fall. The Lake County Sheriff’s office says Illeanna Freese died from what was thought to be an overdose last November 20th. Toxicology tests later found Fentanyl in her system and the department’s major crimes unit started an investigation. After evidence was collected, the sheriff’s office consulted with the Lake County DA’s office which decided to prosecute 27-year-old Joe Boggs for the teen’s death. Boggs was arrested Thursday and is facing murder and drug-related charges. He is in Lake County Jail on a million dollar bail. The sheriff’s office says the case is Lake County’s first arrest for a homicide related to Fentanyl. There have been other successful similar prosecutions in California and the rest of the country.
CalFire is planning a controlled burn starting next week along Highway 101. The nighttime burn will start at Nelson Ranch Road south of Ukiah and finish at the top of Ridgewood Grade south of Willits. The project will treat about 400 acres of CalTrans right of way to reduce the risk of wildfire spread and also provide training for firefighting crews. The burn will start Monday, June 24th, and, weather permitting, last until July 17th. Watch for controlled traffic during operations between 6 pm and 11 pm Monday through Friday. There will be extra emergency vehicle patrols in that area while the burn is going on and you may also see smoke and aircraft above.
The Lakeport Fire Protection District has been in the same space since 1946 and says it needs a better home. Officials say the current HQ at Station 50 in Lakeport does not meet the district’s needs and won’t meet any future needs either. The district board is holding an open meeting on June 25th to discuss options including tearing the building down and rebuilding, relocating, or renovating. Station 50 was remodeled before, in 1956 and again in 1963. The board would like to get public input at the meeting on the 25th at Station 50 starting at 5:30
