California gets some new laws next month. Among them, is a bill to cap rental security deposits to one month’s rent. Owners with one or two properties or fewer than 4 units can charge up to two months. Also coming on the books on July 1st, is the so-called “right to repair” law. It requires manufacturers of electronic devices and appliances that cost more than $50 to provide consumers and repair shops with parts, tools, or instructions to repair the device. COnsumer groups had fought for that protection for several years.
If you own a boat you need to carry lifejackets for children. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will take any excuse for not having them aboard this weekend. Flotilla 08-08 of Lake County will give them away free at the Konocti Bait Shack on State Highway 20 in Lucerne. The distribution will be for children 12 and under in two weight divisions. Flotilla members will size children and show kids and their parents proper use. The event will begin at 10 am and go until 2 pm or until the supply of life jackets is depleted. Konocti Women’s Service Club is backing the giveaway.
