A man from Willits is in the hospital and a relative is accused of putting him there with an assault using boiling water Mendocino County Sheriff’s deputies say the victim was seriously scalded during a fight about groceries at a home on Marcella Drive late Sunday night. They say Raymond Cavino threw the hot water at the victim and then drove him to the hospital. Cavino left, but deputies tracked him down and later charged him with battery. He was booked in the county jail on $30,000 bond—no word on how the two men are related.
Nobody was reported hurt when a big rig r drove off a cliff on Highway 1 near mile marker 27 and tumbled down about 100 feet. MendoFever.com reports CHP was called out to that wreck this morning just after 9. The driver–the only person on board and no other vehicles were involved. Cleanup crews worked into the afternoon to clear some dirt from the southbound lanes where the truck went over.
Lake Country Schools will get state money to help students find their best career paths. Lakeport schools will get almost 1.6 million dollars while Middletown schools will get nearly 800,000 from the state’s Golden State Pathways programs. They’ll use the money on programs that let students get a head start on college credits with career prep, classes, and work-based training. The program focuses on careers that fill community needs like technology, health care, and climate-related fields. The state grants total 422 million dollars.
The Lakeport City Council will take up a plan to reorganize the city’s Utilities Department. Members will consider a plan that would eliminate some positions while adding others. They’ll also decide on a contract to replace sewer and water lines this year. The winning bid went to Ghilotti Construction Co. for just over 8 million dollars.
