Lake County is getting 3 million dollars from CalTrans for safety improvements to a dangerous stretch of Route 29 near Middletown. The work will be north of Butts Canyon Road to the south of Grange Road. A Caltrans Spokesman tells Lake Co News that the project will widen shoulders, add rumble strips, and extend culverts among other improvements. It’s planned for 2028
Agencies from around the region have gone through training for searches and rescues in Mendocino County. The recent exercises involved three days of helicopter training at the Lake Mendocino Spillway. The. Search and rescue volunteers practiced skills including how to safely interact with choppers during rural searches and learned more about how the aircraft operate. Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office hosted the sessions
It will be a musical summer again this year at Todd Grove Park in Ukiah. The city is hosting its annual Summer in the Park Concert series every other Sunday starting June 9th. The concerts have been a city fixture since 1991. Organizers call it an irreplaceable summertime tradition.
Lake County is getting millions of dollars from the USDA to help reduce the risk of wildfire.The 16 million dollars is part of the USDA Forest Service Community Wildfire Defense Grant program. It will go to three projects. The Clear Lake Environmental Research Center will get 8 million dollars to reduce fuels for wildfire and restore burned land. The TheLake County Resource Conservation District with Tribal EcoRestoration Alliance will use its 7.3 million dollars to use traditional and indigenous approaches to fire prevention while the Seigler Springs Community Redevelopment Association is getting $249,000 to reduce the risk in the Cobb Mountain area. Another 409,000 is going out through a different USDA program to promote wood products and wood energy
Home prices in California–no surprise–are up again. The California Association of Realtors reports the median price–have cost more, half cost less–was almost 905,000 last month. It’s the first time the price has hit 900k or more. That compares to March 2022, when the median was ONLY $800,000. Here’s the math–if you qualify for a loan you’ll need 20% down or $180,000 and at 9.5 percent interest, you’ll carry a mortgage of more than $1,300 a month until 2054.
