There’s an exceptional photography show on the way this month. And it’s all from students. It’s the 15th Annual Student Photography Show and you’ll be able to see their works in the front windows of the Corner Gallery as well as in the Art Center Ukiah space. That’s in the rear gallery. The works of Ukiah High School students will be on display all month. The works come from either the intro to photography class or the dual enrollment Art 140 Class at Mendocino College. The title of the show is “Ain’t” – and that title means these will be actual photographs and no Artificial Intelligence generated images. This event will show work that sticks to the traditional art of image making. The AIn’t show is generously sponsored by Mendocino County Office of Education. The First Friday opening reception for AIn’t will be this Friday from 5-8 p.m. Live music will be provided throughout the evening.
A couple of years ago, legislators said it was the most significant political reform in decades. It was designed to limit the attempts of contractors and businesses to sway local elected officials by use of campaign contributions. It cleared the California Legislature without a single “no” vote. Now, some of those same legislators want to backtrack on that ruling. It’s being called “Pay to Play” and both developers and labor unions are backing those changes. The new sill would loosen those restrictions on how much and when local elected officials can actually accept in cash from interest groups for their campaigns. The new bill would exempt some industries such as labor unions and housing developers from those restrictions and change the limit from $250 to $1000 for each contribution.
The Clearlake City Council is going to be considering foreclosure actions at their meeting tomorrow evening (Thursday). They will meet in the council chambers at Clearlake City Hall on Olympic Drive. The actions will be directed at ten properties that are reported to have significant code violations as well as some that have unpaid administrative fines. At the beginning of the meeting, the council will present proclamations declaring May as Military Appreciation Month. They will also proclaim May 5 to 11 as Public Service Appreciation Week, May 12 to 18 as Police Week and May 4 to 11 as National Osteogenesis Imperfecta Awareness Week. The meeting will be broadcast live on the city’s YouTube channel or the Lake County PEGTV YouTube Channel.
