Google is attempting to get a hold on news sites for some California users. They are testing the removal of links to those sites and apparently it’s an attempt to fend off legislation that would force them to pay for the news content that fuels much of its business. Assembly Bill 886, also known as the California Journalism Preservation Act, would require Google to pay news publishers for using news content on its platform. The bill passed the Assembly last year and is currently being considered by the state Senate Judiciary Committee. Google made more than $300 billion last year, most of it from advertising it sells using content it did not create or pay for. In its early days, Google sent lots of traffic for news publishers, but in recent years not so much as it seeks to keep people on its site where Google makes the money.

A report published in the JAMA Network Open finds that the brains of people who socially isolate due to poor mental health, weight game, cognitive decline and chronic diseases like diabetes and obesity, often find sweets as their way to cope. Unchecked overthinking and pessimistic self-talk can lead to anxiety disorders or depression. And no better time to start than right now.
