Major progress to report on the collapse of a famous California road.  A huge chunk of Highway One fell down a cliff and into the ocean on Easter weekend during heavy rain.  Both directions have been closed since near Big Sur but now there’s a reopening date.  Caltrans expects to have cars moving on the side that isn’t damaged by Memorial Day weekend.  A signal will be installed to allow traffic to alternate while crews start work on the next phase of repairs.

California’s insurance crisis isn’t just hitting homeowners.  Turns out, Cal Fire can’t even get coverage for two fire stations because no provider will take them.  The agency told lawmakers about this during a meeting last week, saying it’s affecting renovations at those facilities.  Several companies are dropping customers, mainly for wildfire risk.  That includes State Farm, the biggest home insurer here, which won’t renew 30-thousand policies.

Your taxes are due today, but if you haven’t even started or aren’t done, there’s still hope.  If you’re in a crunch, you need to file for an extension.  The key thing to keep in mind is to file your extension today.  If you file for an extension, you need to file form 4868 on IRS.gov, which gives you an automatic extension for six more months.

The body of a missing woman has been recovered from the Trinity River. On Sunday, the California Highway Patrol announced that Roxanna Miller of Garberville, who was reported missing on January 29th, had been found. She had been traveling from Mendocino County through Trinity County on Highway 299. CHP found part of her vehicle, a camper shell, in the Trinity River.
