The fee for a fireworks permit in Lakeport is going up. The city council has voted to raise the fee to cover the increased costs of enforcing Lakeport’s legal fireworks sales laws. According to LakeCoNews.com Police Chief Bradel Rassmussen told the council this week it cost the city Police and Public Works departments about 30,000 dollars last year. The permit fee will now include a 2% surcharge on gross sales. Four non-profit groups had sales permits last year and all approved of the new cost. Lakeport is the only community in Lake County where fireworks sales are legal.

Clearlake police are looking for help finding a missing woman. They say 47-year-old Leslie Likens was last known to be in Oregon, possibly heading to California. You can find a description and picture on the PD social media pages. If you have any information, you can contact the Clearlake PD.

The Mendocino County Board of Supervisors continues to deal with a proposal for a gas station in Redwood Valley that has some residents worried. Businessman Mahmood Alam has wanted to put a station on the east side of Highway 101 at the grade for years but his original permit expires and he re applied last year for the 10 pump station and convenience store. LakeCoNews.com reports he’s now submitted a new traffic study that members will review before taking the application up at a meeting in May –however the board suggested it would deny it. Opponents say Redwood Valley already has enough gas stations and they have concerns about traffic around the location.

The good news continues for California’s water Supply. The latest figures show the April snowpack is slightly above normal, with reservoirs showing 116 percent capacity. Water researchers say that means we’ll head into the summer in great shape, but they warn the bounty may not last. They say it’s still important to plan for climate change and the potential for another severe drought. Governor Newsom says the state should still expect to lose 10% of its water supply by 2040. His plans to deal with a shortfall include a new reservoir north of Sacramento and a 16 billion dollar, 45 mile tunnel that would carry water under the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
