The Clearlake City Council will decide this week if the city should back a proposal that could bring in 80 new affordable housing units. Chelsea Investment wants the city’s blessing to apply for a HOME Investment Partnerships Grant Program that would help pay for their development on 18th Avenue. The state has picked Chelsea to build the 80-unit project but Chelsea has struggled to find financing. Under the deal, the city would apply for the money on behalf of the developer. The state owns the land, which it swapped for the Old Lake County Armory–which is expected to become the new county Sheriff’sOffice HQ. The matter is one of several agenda items on the city council agenda for this week’s meeting that starts at 5 PM Thursday.
Spring is almost here. The vernal equinox is at 11:09 PM across the northern hemisphere. It will be FALL south of the equator. It won’t feel like fall in Brazil, where the high in Rio on Monday was a reported 62 degrees Celsius–or 143 degrees Fahrenheit. If that’s confirmed, it would be one of the highest temperatures ever recorded anywhere on Earth.
