No rest for the workers at the Lake County Registrar of Voters office. The office says it is still tallying up the almost 8,000 ballots that came in by the Tuesday deadline, plus reviewing another 500 or so that need second looks for a variety of reasons. The canvass has to be done by April 4th and submitted to the state for certification.

The City of Fort Bragg is preparing for something they never hope happens. The city is holding an Emergency Operations Center drill at the Fort Bragg Middle School on April 3rd. The exercise will be held in the middle school library after school hours so normal activities won’t be affected. The city’s Administrative and Management staff will take part in a two-hour simulated activation of the City’s Emergency Operations Center following a major disaster. The city public safety commission will hear about the drill at a special meeting on March 25th.

Water districts across the region are reminding people to check their water supply for leaks. The EPA has designated March 18th through the 25th as Fix A Leak Week and local communities say it is a good time to take a look at your plumbing to make sure you aren’t wasting water–and money. They say you can easily check your water meter for signs of increased use, check for any water dripping or toilets that refill without flushing, and for loose fittings that may be slowly leaking. They’re also recommending you take a close look at outdoor lines and irrigation systems that may have sprung a leak since the fall. The EPA has more water-saving tips on its website.
