Ukiah has made the top 16 in a search for America’s strongest town. A nonprofit media advocacy group called Strong Towns wants to recognize communities that succeed by engaging their residents in urban planning. The goal is to improve communities through things like walkability, mixed-use developments, and less dependency on cars. The US House has passed several budget bills, which means some money for the folks back home, including in Congressman Jared Huffman’s district. Among the Mendocino projects tucked way inside the bills – the Coyote Valley Dam Investigation and Feasibility Study, which will get $500,000. Also getting $500,000 is the Anderson Valley Elementary Septic replacement project. The Mendonoma Mobile Health Clinic in Mendocino will get $165,000. That’s just a minuscule part of the billions and billions of dollars worth of appropriations bills that have clogged up the works in Washington for months.If the Senate goes along, they’ll be on the way to the White House for the president to sign.
