The latest in the seemingly unending parade of storms from the Pacific is pounding us today and will hang around through tomorrow. In Mendocino County, we are under a high-wind advisory until 10 PM with gusts up to 60 miles an hour possible. That advisory is in effect until 4 AM for Lake County The National Weather Service says damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines, with another round of power outages expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. There is also a flood watch in effect in Mendocino and Lake counties. Excessive runoff may result in flooding rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. CHP is reporting several traffic hazards late this afternoon, like downed trees and flooding in Clearlake, Laytonville, and Ukiah. They are urging caution if you have to go out this evening. So far, PGE reports a couple hundred outages in Mendocino and Lake Counties but says crews are ready for whatever the storms bring. This is another statewide storm. California’s weather threats today include tornadoes around Sacramento, feet of snow in the mountains, and a deluge of inches more rain around LA. 37 million people are under some kind of weather advisory this afternoon. The governor has activated the state emergency operations center.
Clearlake is having an open house this week on the plans to re-develop the site of the former Pearce Field airport. They’ll take input on the plans Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 6:30 at City Hall. Planners will be there to talk about ideas they envision that would transform the site into a community hub, commercial, and medical center.
The Lakeport City Council meets this week and members will get an update on some work going on in the city. Lake Co News.com reports members hey are scheduled to hear about the latest on the Hartley Culvert and Forbes Creek Headwall Projects. They were damaged in a storm in 2019. Council members will also hear from City Manager Kevin Ingram about traffic safety. The meeting is tomorrow night at 6 in the council chambers. There is an agenda on the city’s website.
