People who get CalFresh benefits in Mendocino County will be allowed to request additional help if they lost food in the recent storms. The replacement food benefits can’t be more than the recipient’s normal monthly amount. Households have until March 4 to request a replacement by submitting a Replacement Affidavit through www.benefitscal.com. Konocti Unified School District is taking steps to ensure its employees stay physically and mentally healthy. The district is working with a program called Blue Zones to make sure work environments and policies make healthy choices easier for employees. The changes will include outdoor walking paths, policies that allow employees more time to spend with families, and better food choices throughout the day to help workers eat more wisely. The District says it is the first district to use the Blue Zones model for employee well-being.

Some California lawmakers want to take on organized retail crime. A bill now up for discussion would create new penalties, require online sellers to report where their products come from, and require more crime data collection. Governor Newsom is proposing a similar plan. The bill does NOT address Proposition 47, which sets a $950 minimum threshold for misdemeanor shoplifting in 2014. Sponsors say they want to take on organized retail crime in a coordinated way.
